This booklet is an introduction to sustainable tourism. In the first section, we mention that the growing number of people traveling produces pressures, and negatively impacts the environment, resources, local communities, and cultural assets. Facing these challenges have made us redefine new principles for tourism in order to get better results for all stakeholders. Also, you can see the definition of sustainable tourism and its role as an accelerator in achieving Sustainable Development Goals. For instance, sustainable tourism has a direct impact on efforts to achieve goals, such as eradicating poverty, advancing gender equality and protecting the environment. Then, we talk about all stakeholders, including government at the national, subnational and local levels, the private sector, destinations and communities, NGOs, and tourists. In separate sections, we define in more details what the role of these stakeholders is. Finally, in the conclusion, the importance of effective cooperation among all these stakeholders, in order to achieve sustainable tourism and the need for fundamental change in our practices to achieve meaningful and impactful sustainable tourism is discussed, otherwise, just cherry-picking goals and changing small parts of our practices will be ineffective and tourism, as we know it today seriously, endangers the achievement of the 2030 Agenda.
