Turkoman Horses in Sufian Village: An Visit by Marefat Pardis Toos

As an Oriental horse breed from the steppes of Turkoman desert, the Turkoman horse has influenced many modern horse breeds, including the Thoroughbred horse.

Nowadays, some horses bredare still referred to as Turkoman in Iran and Turkmenistan and have similar characteristics. Modern descendants include the Akhal-Teke, the Iomud (Yamud or Yomud), and Chenaran.
The Turkoman horse was noted for its endurance. It had a slender body, a straight profile, sloping shoulders, long and muscular legs and a long neck. Most Turkmen are very interested in horses. Throughout history, they have been known for their horses.

Today, the purest Turkmen horses of Iran can be found in Raz and Jargalan County in North Khorasan province, which has the largest population of this horse. Gonbad-e Kavus and Sufian village on the outskirts of Kalaleh are also important centers for Turkmen horse breeding in Golestan province. Gonbad-e-Kavus and the Sufian village in Turkmen Sahra County in Golstan are considered to be major centers for Turkoman horse raising in Iran.

There are horse breeding and training centers in Sufian Village that is located in Tamran Rural District, in the Central District of Kalaleh County, Golestan Province, Iran.
