Plan for the land Society visiting different groups of women in the field of handicrafts in Hormozgan Province

The role of women in the development of sustainable tourism cannot be ignored. Women can play an important role in development of rural and sustainable tourism by participating in the production of food and handicrafts. Plan for the land Society has always been trying to help improve local tourism and women’s participation from the villages of Hormozgan province in preserving and reviving valuable handicrafts. During this trip, P4L has travelled to Soheili villages of Qeshm Island, Bahmani village of Minab city, and the house of indigenous women of Kish Island in order to produce content for the activities. Women from these villages work mainly in the field of handicraft production such as traditional sewing types like burqa, needle embroidery, Golabatoon Duzi/doozi, Khoos Duzi/doozi, Shak-weaving, Zaribafi, mat weaving with native plants of Persian Gulf (Sondbafi), Bādele duzi and etc.  Hormozgan handicrafts is one of the industries that have more local consumption, such as Khoos Duzi/doozi. This art includes sewing thin ribbons of Khoos or Naqadeh on fine woven lace fabrics that can be counted and in geometric, curved, bead, Islamic and long base brick designs. The burqa is a veil that is common among women in the Persian Gulf, especially in Hormozgan province. Golabatoon, with a more than two-thousand-year-old history, is a kind of traditional embroidery of Hormozgan. The World Crafts Council has recorded Hormozgan as a center of Golabatoon, due to its unique and unmatched products. The products of Hormozgan handicrafts are mostly created for local purposes. Khos Duzi, a kind of embroidery, is one of them. Khos Duzi consists of sewing thin strips of Khos or Naqdeh on fine and delicate lace fabrics. Bādele duzi is one of the traditional embroideries of Iran and the field of handicrafts of Hormozgan province. Mat weaving is one of the handicrafts, it is woven in different ways in different regions of Iran and in the world using different plants. It’s several thousand years old and it’s used in these provinces due to the abundance of dates.
